Where can I return my containers?

We have two depots available in NSW for container returns, Matraville and Queanbeyan. You can also return your containers via our Home/Business Collection Service with ReCollect.

Do I need to separate containers by material?
No, our machines will sort the containers based on materials for you. 

Can containers be crushed?
We prefer containers not to be crushed, as this helps with fast and accurate counting. However, if your containers are slightly damaged, that’s okay if the barcode and refund mark are still visible.

Can I keep the lids on?
We do not accept lids at our depots. They can be returned at other recycling facilities, however. We suggest Lids4Kids! 

Why are some containers not eligible?
Eligibility
is determined by NSW legislation. Refunds apply to drink containers typically consumed away from home. The refund represents the deposit you paid at purchase.

How is Return-It different from kerbside recycling?
Return-It lets you reclaim the 10c deposit on eligible containers, while kerbside recycling doesn’t track individual refunds. Return-It complements kerbside recycling by reducing litter and encouraging recycling outside the home.

What do I need to know before I go?

  • The refund points will only accept eligible items included in the scheme. To check what's included, click on the eligible containers page 
  • Check each individual locations operational hours on the return point page
  • Containers do not need to be washed, just completely empty
  • Refund points will not accept rubbish
  • Do not crush your containers

How do I get my refund?
You can choose how you receive your refund:

  • Instant Cash – At Cash-back Depots
  • Electronic Payment – Via Return and Earn App
  • Donation to Charity – Via Return and Earn App

How long does it take to receive my refund?
It can take up to 10 business days for your refund to appear in your nominated account or PayPal. However, most payments are processed within 48 hours. You can check the refund history page of the app to see the status of your refund.

How do I set up electronic refunds?
Register an account through the Return and Earn App and link your bank account.

Where can I collect a cash refund from?
At Cash-back Depots. Click here to find a cash back return point. 

What do I do if I haven't received my refund?
If you have not yet received your refund after 10 business days have elapsed please contact Return and Earn's customer service by calling 1800 290 691
