Containers returned through the scheme don’t just get recycled - they get a real second chance.

Unlike general recycling, where materials can be lost or downgraded, the Container Deposit Scheme ensures containers are kept clean, sorted, and ready to be turned into new products again and again. Your 10c return helps create a closed loop that reduces waste, saves resources, and adds value - proving that every container counts.

What happens to the containers I return?

Plastic Bottles

Plastic bottles are collected, shredded, and thoroughly washed, then recycled back into new plastic bottles through a closed-loop “bottle-to-bottle” process. This recycling method keeps the material in use at the same quality, reducing the need for virgin plastic and supporting a circular economy.

Aluminum Cans

Aluminum cans are melted into aluminum ingots which are then used to manufacture new aluminum cans. They can also be made into engine blocks and airplane wings!

Glass Bottles

Glass bottles are color sorted and reprocessed into glass bottles containers for you to purchase again. They can also be processed into a glass sand to be used as a building aggregate for road construction, bedding sand and asphalt.
